Fashion Friday: These boots were made for walking

If you haven't already now is really the time to get out the winter boots again. If you're bored of last years version and need an update, here it is. My favourite boots are ankle boots, normally Chelsea boots and there's so many variations on Chelsea boots available now. There's also a lot of metal heeled boots around at the moment which I love, they give my beloved Chelsea boots a chic update. Plus all those boots with cut out details I've been seeing are beautiful, maybe not too practical but beautiful all the same.

Mollie Makes and embroidery

I apologise for not writing many posts at the moment but I have been very busy with uni work recently and by the time I get home its dark and no good for taking photos! But anyway lets skip to the exciting part... I'm in Mollie Makes! Only a little picture, but its still exciting. Its a picture which I tweeted of my fox brooches in progress. Hopefully one day I'll have something bigger in the magazine, fingers crossed!

Also here is a picture of some embroidery I've been working on for my embroidery folder for uni. I bought some gold metallic thread and have cut three lengths of it which I am couching to the fabric in a wiggly pattern.

Fashion Friday: Knitwear at Hobbs

I've never shopped at Hobbs before but my Mum recently said to me, look at Hobbs, they have really nice jumpers. Mistake. I've fallen in love with more clothes. As if I need any encouragement. Not exactly student budget friendly either. Short sleeves, long sleeves, fitted, loose, long, short, quirky details, you name it Hobbs have got it. I love the geometric patterns and the bird jumper, these pieces are really beautiful unusual knits. They have the basics too, you can't go wrong with a good cream cable knit or classic cashmere. Get in there now, some are in the sale, oh no! Its not looking good for my bank balance. I love it all too much... get me off this website now!

Felted bear

A while ago, back in a festival themed issue of Mollie Makes there was a felted bear project designed to be a keyring to look after your keys. I kept it in my mental list of future craft projects. It popped to the front of my mind the other day when I needed something to make. All I needed was a bit of brown wool top and I was away. The bear did take a long time to make but I love seeing the shape build up as you felt the wool. The bear even has it's own fishy friend which is embellished with seed beads. I decided not to make my bear into a keyring, instead it will stand proudly amongst my vintage teacups.

Fashion Friday: Taking it back to the 60s

After having a lecture the other day about pretty much everything that happened, fashion and textiles related, in the 60s, I've been reminded of my love for the era. It also reminded me of some beautiful dresses I saw recently in Urban Outfitters which reminded me a lot of 60s fashion. They come from the label called Cooperative which is sold in Urban O, not everything has that sixties feel but a lot of it does. The label has that school girl style that was so prolific back then. The clothes are just beautiful, geometric patterns and crisp white collars, textured fabrics and that perfect coat I've been looking for. Plus there's a lot of tartan, I love a good bit of tartan. Thankyou Urban O and Cooperative, you have answered my prayers for that coat, the knit dress and the jumper I've been dreaming of (the wardrobe essentials right?), maybe not the prayers of my bank balance though.

Crochet edged scarf

I absolutely love scarves and I probably don't need any more but when I saw a beautiful picot edging in the Mollie Makes crochet book I couldn't resist using it on a scarf. Back in June I bought some patterned polyester chiffon, this fabric is perfect for making scarves with because its not too slippery like silk chiffon and it had a wonderful drape. I had half a metre of it which I cut into a square and then overlocked the edges. I turned the edges over and blanket stitched around them. For the edging I used the same grey wool that I used for the doily I wrote about the other day. Its very simple but just gives that extra detail which makes the scarf a bit special. The only trouble is, I'm running out of room to keep all these scarves now!

Felt fox brooches

These felt fox brooches were too cute not to make. The kit came free with issue 32 of Mollie Makes, they really do the best free gifts out there. I made these two fox faces a few weekends ago, they made the perfect evening craft project. I have so many projects lined up from recent issues of Mollie Makes on my list of things to make as well. I'm sure these fox brooches will oversee the making very well from the lapel of my favourite tweedy blazer.

Fashion Friday: Not your normal ring finger

Take a style tip from Gatsby now and choose to wear your rings on your little finger. You can style this how you want, stick to one large ring on one hand like Gatsby or stack them up and wear on both hands. I like wearing several more delicate rings on one finger, and a more chunky ring on the other hand. Now if you're wondering how I got small enough rings the secret is to get midi rings. Buy a midi ring in small and it will fit perfectly, but I'd get in quick before midi rings are no longer in fashion and not easy to get anymore. The best place to get your rings from is Topshop, they have a large selection of midi rings, all the rings I'm wearing in the photos below are from Topshop. My collection is slowly growing, I don't think I'll be wearing rings on any other fingers for a while...
