I'm usually one to go for garments with elaborate prints and embellishments but recently I've been seduced by simple garments which focus on fabric manipulation and silhouette. I say simple because they are relatively unadorned but this does not mean there is any compromise on the quality of the cut. In fact, the expert cuts are what make the garment.
This aesthetic is perfectly embodied by the Sonia Rykiel Resort 2014 collection. Designed by Geraldo da Conceicao, masterful tailoring and fabric manipulation are very much the focus of the collection. These features are accentuated with just a splash of gentle pastels and subdued neons complimented by shiningly bright white. Fabric manipulation in the form of sharp pleats is abundant. I am seeing pleats everywhere now, on tops, skirts you name it - pleats are there. So much so that pleats have become my new favourite form of fabric manipulation. Although the collection is predominately comprised of crisp fabrics which form a sleek silhouette, lightweight and softer flowing fabrics such as slouchy knits are used to soften the silhouette.
